Introduction

The Directorate General of Mines Safety (DGMS) conducts the First and Second Class Manager’s examinations under the Coal Mines Regulations (CMR) and Metalliferous Mines Regulations (MMR) to grant competency certificates for mine management roles.

These exams are mandatory for statutory mining positions and highly competitive. DGMS has moved to Computer-Based Tests (CBT) to improve transparency and efficiency. Candidates must hold a degree or diploma in Mining Engineering (or equivalent) along with statutory mining experience depending on the certificate type and category.
