Rajasthan’s Hidden Treasure: Banswara Unearths Third Gold Mine
Rajasthan, October 2025: The sands of Rajasthan have glittered once again! In a major boost to India’s mining sector, Rajasthan’s Banswara district has discovered its third gold mine in Kankariya village of Ghatol tehsil — revealing what experts are calling one of the state’s largest mineral finds in recent history.
Geologists estimate a total of 222 tonnes of pure gold deposits stretching over 940 hectares — making it one of India’s most significant discoveries in recent decades.A New Chapter in Rajasthan’s Gold Story
The Geological Department’s latest survey reports that the mineral-bearing stretch in Kankariya holds approximately 113 million tonnes of gold ore. The zone spans nearly three kilometres, and additional exploration is expected to reveal even more reserves in nearby areas such as the Kankariya-Gara block, which holds an estimated 1.24 million tonnes of ore.
This mine joins the ranks of Bhukia and Jagpura, two other major deposits in the district, forming a “Golden Triangle” that positions Banswara as Rajasthan’s most promising gold region.
Economic Boost and Employment Promise
The Banswara gold belt is set to drive economic growth and provide large-scale employment to local communities. The upcoming mining phase is projected to create thousands of direct and indirect jobs across exploration, transport, refining, and construction. Once extraction begins, Rajasthan’s contribution could fulfill up to 25% of India’s gold demand.
Authorities are preparing for the auction of mining blocks starting this November, inviting bids from both state-run and private companies. This step will ensure structured exploration with an emphasis on sustainability and environmental balance.
India’s Golden Geography
| Rank | State | Estimated Gold Ore Reserves (Million Tonnes) | Remarks |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Bihar (Jamui) | 22.9 | 44% of India’s total reserves |
| 2 | Rajasthan | 125 | Now strengthened by Banswara’s massive discovery |
| 3 | Karnataka | 103 | Includes Hutti and Kolar Fields |
| 4 | Andhra Pradesh | 15 | Significant reserves in Ramagiri belt |
| 5 | Uttar Pradesh | 13 | Primarily in Sonbhadra district |
A Glittering Road Ahead
The Banswara discovery could redefine Rajasthan’s industrial future. Beyond gold, the region is expected to attract investments in mineral processing, petrochemicals, and manufacturing. With responsible mining practices and environmental management, experts believe this can become a model for modern, sustainable resource extraction in India.
